Update: Our 2014 contest has ended, with more than 300 photos submitted. Thanks very much to all who shared their photos or viewed the gallery! You can still upload photos to the Gardens gallery all year long.
If you’ve been busy getting your hands dirty in your garden and are ready to show off the fruits of your labor, we’d love to see what you’ve created. Enter photos of your garden in our Homestyle Garden Photo Contest.
Each week throughout the summer, The Detroit News’ Homestyle team will select a winner whose garden will be featured in the Welcome Mat column on Friday and receive a home or garden book. At the end of the summer, a grand prize winner will be selected who will receive a $100 gift certificate from English Gardens.
The judges primarily will be looking for overall shots of your garden, but close-ups also can be submitted. Entries must be submitted by the original photographer. Photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared; images that have been digitally altered beyond the basics needed to achieve realistic color balance and sharpness are not eligible for prizes. No watermarks, signatures or copyright notices should be added to the images.
The contest is open to all amateur photographers who are 18 years or older, except employees of The Detroit News, the Detroit Newspaper Partnership and their immediate families. You can submit up to 10 photos per week, each photo no greater than 2 megabytes in file size. Note: You don’t have to resubmit your photos each week; the Detroit News judges consider all of the entries when picking the weekly finalists.
To enter, upload your photos here. The images will be reviewed and posted by the contest staff as soon as possible. By entering the contest, entrants grant The Detroit News a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display and distribute the entries in any media format. Winners are responsible for any income tax obligations on prizes won.
You can see your photos and all of the other entries in the Homestyle Gardens gallery, where you can comment on the photos and share them on social media.
Happy growing, everybody!
